Bio

I'm Jacob Buys, an emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Seattle, WA. I grew up on a farm in rural South Africa, where I learned the skill and mindset of making things. Though I pursued a career in software engineering, learning how to make things in the physical world has been a lifelong passion.

Starting in 2025, I've built several interactive art installations in collaboration with a small group of artists, exploring experimental techniques to create mesmerizing works that inspire surprise and delight. To achieve this, I enjoy combining novel fabrication techniques with electronic interactivity and immersive lighting and sound design.

Ethos

The kind of art interactions that always stick with me are the ones which entice me to play and explore. I bring my curiosity and creativity to any art I find out in the world to make art of my own in the small out of the canvas of others.

In my own art, I strive to create space for that feeling of question, possibility, promise and reward:
